Boat Virginia safety courses are offered locally this winter and spring by the SML Sail and Power Squadron.  These are free classes and the course is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators. It is also recognized by the US Coast Guard.  Here are the current Saturday classes scheduled in our area. You must register by calling the Smith Mountain Eagle at the number below.

All classes start at 9:00 A.M. sharp. It is an all day class, and generally out by 4:30 with a one hour break for lunch. Participants must register on line with www.dgif.virginia.gov.

Authorized Online Virginia Boating Courses

As of January 1, 2009 the online boating education courses listed here are accepted by VDGIF as meeting the basic requirements to obtain a boating safety education certificate. The courses meet the NASBLA minimum standards and include Virginia specific boating laws and regulations. These are comprehensive courses that take approximately six hours to complete.
