2013 Poker Run Winners
The 16th annual SMLBA Tom Maynard Poker Run held May 17th and 18th was once again a huge success. The Poker Run consisted of 7 card stops located at sponsored locations on the lake which this year included Magnum Marine, Crystal Shores (Platinum Sponsor), Bayside Marine, Va. Dare Portside, The Landing, Mexico Viejo and Gills Creek Marina. Chuck Poss (vice-president) was the MC of the Kick Off Party on Friday night that took place at Mango’s Restaurant. All participants enjoyed dinner and dancing after transportation by shuttle bus round trip from Mariners Landing.
Saturday morning festivities at Mariners Landing started with breakfast for all participants that was followed by a mandatory safety meeting for Captains which was hosted by Sgt. Karl Martin of Games and Inland Fisheries along with Chairman Chuck Poss and President Marshall Prilliman. The start took place at 11:30am with the Smith Mountain Lake Fire and Rescue boats shooting water spray into the air signifying “GO” with the helicopter in the air taking the aerial shots of all participants. The SMLBA Poker Run is a family oriented event that is not a race so all boats had 4 hours to complete the event which was followed by a dinner and awards presentation.
